Autumn Activities

Emily's activities included carving a pumpkin and making caramel apples.
This was really a "fall" activity. We had a 25 meter tree cut down in our backyard. First it's standing, then it's half down, then it's all down, then it's cut up! Friday, August 28, 2009
Route 66: The Finale
This is the end of our best trip ever! Thank you to everybody who helped us, for the hospitality and the friendship that made this trip so enjoyable..... and maybe someday.....
...YOU should do a roadtrip too...
We did it! Here at the official plaque for the end of route 66.
We had a great picnic in the park by the sea.
THis is were Route 66 meets the Pacific at Santa Monica Blvd.
Our last miles on our roadtrip were back in traffic again. We left Barstow and went on 6-lane highways. Welcome to Los Angeles. We are staying at Amys again. Thanks to her hospitality we have a great time finishing up our trip. At the end of the road you can see the water

Arizona to California via Kingman
It was a long drive and since we are going west, we drove directly into the beautiful sunset.... into boring (that is what the lady at the motel desk said) Barstow
We are driving the old road to cross the desert. It was great! No traffic, great views, feeling the road...
After Kingman we went over mountains to Bullhead. A big city with lots of casinos and no charm. It started to get hot (40°C) again. Yes, the Mojave desert is waiting!
We ate in this local diner in Kingman. At the next table sat a tour group from Italy. They enjoyed the place and took lots of pictures, but it was very hard for them to choose their food.
In the 5o´s the people started traveling across the US in their cars for fun
This is a reminder, that in the 1930´s over 200 000 people moved from Oklahoma to California on Route 66. They traveled not so comfortably as we do today.
We started as usual for us at the museum. The Mojave museum and the Route 66 museum. We talked to the very friendly staff and they were happy to tell us all about Kingman, Route 66 and the area.
