From a city in the sky to a wigwam

We checked into the wigwam motel and went to the Butterfield Steakhouse in Holbrook. It is the worst place we ate on this trip. But we were laughing all evening over Marie's and Emily's blog entry! Thank you girls.
We stopped at some petroglyphs. What do YOU think they mean?
After that we drove into the sunset for a night in the wigwam.
The very old route 66 crossed the national park. In the background you can see where the road once was.
A landscape with colors unimaginable.
We drove on to the Petrified Forest National Park
This is the entrance to a Kiva. A Kiva is a place where only men meet. They perform secret rites in there and smoke and drink.....
Here is our tour guide explaining things. Her name is Michelle and she comes from the Big Bear, Little Yellow Corn clans.
These buildings are mostly inhabitated by Acoma Indian artists during the summer.
Now we are looking up from the visitor center.
The usual straight road showed us the way. It turned out that this mesa (=flat mountain) was the old settlement.

Our first stop was the Acoma pueblo. The locals call it sky city.
